Pranayama, the Sanskirt work generally translated as breath work, is the fourth limb of yoga. It follows asana, or physical movement (the third limb out of eight). Breathing practices are helpful both on their own or incorporated into movement practices or meditations. Just as there are many poses in yoga, there are many types of pranayama, from the three-part breath to nadi shodana (alternate nostril breathing). These breathwork exercises can be used at different times of day, seasonally, or to balance out emotions or imbalances. We have a varitey of breathwork practices on the site to assist with everything from finding balance to relaxing more deeply.
