Hala has carefully sequenced a practice that will bring healing energy to the sushumna (spine). Start with seated twists to warm up, including both the vertical sushumna and the snaking spirals of energy around the sushumna, Ida and Pingala. You will move through a series of core exercises to build heat, followed by therapeutic twists. Attention is placed on feeling grounded in your legs and long in your spine, which will allow for openness and flexibility needed for the twists. Throughout the standing sequence, Hala offers restorative modifications as well as challenging twists, such as Parivrtta Ardha Chandrasana (Revolved Half Moon). A series of backbends and hip openers lead to a relaxing Savasana. Music courtesy of Philip Steir.
