Shala Worsley

In her classes, Shala Worsley draws on the alignment traditions of Iyengar, the flowing aspects of Ashtanga and Vinyasa, as well as therapeutic yoga, Yin yoga, meditation, pranayama and yoga philosophy. She's passionate about practicing yoga in nature and exploring our innate connection to the Earth and the cosmos. Shala is the director of her own Asheville School of Massage and Yoga and teaches at the Asheville Yoga Center.

I am lucky enough to be able to take Shala's classes in person each week. The studio has many different classes and teachers in order to fulfill everyone's needs and styles -- but she is the one for me. I just love her style!! You sweat and get a great workout (try the longer classes for this) but you also go into a really calm, sweet, meditative space -- she focuses on inner well-being and wisdom, not being perfect in a pose or keeping up with the rest of the class. I find the best teachers clearly maintain that integrity for each student. Now that I am now travelling for 3 weeks I am thrilled I was able to take her with me! And, I am in one of these videos -- which is cool. (Posted on 12/31/2012)

I really like the gentle, flowing movements of the upper body helping the lower body begins to settle and surrender. Pranayama keeps the mind focused and in the present. Cuing the sensations that send messages to leave or modify the postures are quite effective. Wish that I lived closer to Shala's studio... Thank you Yogavibes for bringing her to my computer!
