Claire Schaal's yoga classes are infused with a deep awareness of the body and the collective consciousness of her students. As a registered Dharma Yoga Teacher DYRT , her classes are designed to allow the student to go within, cultivating a moving meditation that translates eventually into a daily practice of mindfulness and compassion. There is an emphasis on heart opening and working through any limitations to achieve more space in the mind and body. The classes, while vigorous, bring the body to its maximum health. Claire began her career as a ballet dancer. In 2004, she received her BFA in Dance from Marymount Manhattan College. Since then she has performed in NY and Montreal, with numerous companies and choreographers. Dancing has left Claire with an extensive understanding of the body. She believes that the True Self shines most radiantly through a supple, healthy body and an open heart. Using yoga to work through her own serious injuries, she has experience its healing benefits and the power of the positive mind. She works to translate that to even the most beginner student, using her knowledge to facilitate openness and a playful spirit. Claire's yogic path took a turn when she discovered her teacher, Sri Dharma Mittra. She completed her 200 hour Teacher Training with him and is humbled to have received and continue his teachings. She also draws inspiration from her study with great teachers in NYC and Chicago, including Jim Bennitt and James Tennant, Ana Forrest, Heather Lilleston Jivamukti and Yogi Charu. She views all her classes as a journey towards a happier, healthier life, and strives to pass on the teachings that have been so generously shared with her.
