To many, it\u2019s considered the oldest form of self-development, and has been proven to reduce stress and increase wellness. Fortunately for us today, the practice is accessible to anyone, beginner or expert.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So how exactly does yoga help relieve stress? Well, many of the yoga practices you may be familiar with, like controlled breathing and meditation, are inherently designed for stress relief. We like how <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindful.org\/what-is-mindfulness\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mindful<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> puts it,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we\u2019re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what\u2019s going on around us.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Put simply, it\u2019s wonderful for stress relief. There are so many ways to incorporate mindfulness into your yoga routine, which is why we created <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yogavibes.com\/blog\/uncategorized\/incorporating-self-care-mindfulness-into-your-yoga-practice\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">this helpful resource<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to kickstart your inspiration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guided Imagery<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Similar to mindfulness, guided imagery can be a helpful tool for managing stress. Many people already incorporate it into their yoga practice without realizing it. Imagination is powerful. When we can train ourselves to visualize things, like say, lying on the warm sand on a tropical island, our brain processes it as if we were really there experiencing it!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Those peaceful mental images we create during guided imagery sessions can help create a calming emotional and physiological response. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yogavibes.com\/catalogsearch\/result\/?cat=&amp;q=guided+imagery\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of our favorite classes on YogaVibes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> either open or close with guided imagery!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pranayama<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another great stress management practice is known as pranayama, or controlled breathing. Breath control comes in a variety of forms, but at its core, it\u2019s all about focusing your body and mind on task in an effort to reduce tension and lower the heart rate.
