Opening the Four Gates: Yoga Basics with Darcy Lyon

Yoga Class Description

Twists help us to wring out tension and chronic holding patterns in the body. The spine becomes more free and supple, breathing is easier and shoulder tightness can be released. In this easily accessible online yoga class, filmed live at Yoga Tree Hayes, we move from basic warm up twists on the floor through hip and shoulder openers into standing poses that open the four gates of the body: the hips and shoulders. As we deepen in the practice, moving from the most gross towards the more subtle, it is not only the physical body that is affected, but also our sense of who we are. Softening, we deepen away from our 'doing' nature and into our own essential presence and being, which is the hallmark of yoga. Have two blocks, a blanket and a strap available. (64 mins.)

Level: 1 Focus: Alignment-Based Flow Yoga, Hip Opening Yoga, Twisting Yoga
