Introduction to Ashtanga

This online yoga class is an introduction to the Ashtanga system, which is a set series of postures that are taught one at a time and new postures are added when you are ready. The method of practice, not the postures themselves, are what make the Ashtanga practice special. In this "led" class, Gary and Melissa will take you through Sun Salutations A, Sun Salutations B, the standing sequence, a portion of the seated sequence (or primary series) and a modified closing sequence. Some modifications are given for poses, so it is accessible to students who are new to the Ashtanga practice. Tools such as the drishti (gaze), bandhas (locks), and ujjayi pranayama (breathing) are discussed. (111 mins.)
