Class Description

His the barre for exhale's signature full body workout designed to give you chiseled abs, toned legs, cut arms, and a high, lifted butt. This ballet inspired, core-centric class focuses on isolated exercises, alignment, flexibility and posture as you work through targeted mindful muscle movements. Push yourself to the limit - and then find balance - as every hard worked muscle is followed by a deep relaxing stretch. Have a couple of pairs of light hand weights available and access to a barre or chair. (60 mins.)

I love John's energy! He seems to truly enjoy teaching. I also like that he tells you what is coming up so you know what to expect, while keeping it fun and challenging. I particularly like this class because it's possible to do the entire class without a barre at home.

One of my favorite Core Fusion Barre classes on here. The thigh and ab sections are great. I like that some of the exercises in these sections are a bit different to those in the other Barre classes.

I really enjoyed the entire class. John is actually one of my favorite instructors and one of the main reasons I joined YogaVibes. I love his energy and how he explains all the exercises thoroughly so people at home can follow along. I also found this to be fast paced which keeps you focused the entire hour. I loved the ab series!

I found myself feeling anxious from John's speed and breathlessness. It was as if he was working harder than the students. I think the workout can be really hard and the teacher can still remain calm.

I really appreciate how this instructor provides modification cues for things like under the barre for those of us doing this at home. With the other classes I've just had to sit that section out since I don't have the right barre, but I was able to participate because of his instruction!

I agree that the cueing could be a little better; I was confused in some of the side plank exercises, but only slightly. Otherwise, a very fast-paced and challenging workout. John is wonderfully enthusiastic and the workout moves quickly.

John Nelson

John Nelson moved to Chicago from the Washington, D.C. area in the summer of 2005. He found Lotte Berk method in a teeny-tiny studio back in D.C. the following summer. That Fall, he was lucky enough to find exhale in Chicago and making the transition from regular guest to teacher trainee in 2007 was an easy one. With a background in dance, the biggest challenge he had was taking yoga classes! Since then, yoga has become an integral part of his life and he prides himself in the transformation. Since graduating from Columbia College Chicago in 2009 with a major in Musical Theatre and a minor in Playwriting, John has been working in a musical theatre writing workshop at both the Theatre Building Chicago and at Light Opera Works. John has always been interested in being on Broadway; however, he has recently discovered he would rather see his name in lights as the writer of the smash hit, not the lead performer. Keep your eyes open, it'll happen soon! In the Fall of 2009, John was named an Ambassador for lululemon's 900 Michigan location - go check out his picture on the wall. In November 2010, John was asked to be an Ambassador for GGO organics clothing. In May of 2010, John's Core Fusion Sport class was named the best fitness class in Chicago by Mint Male Magazine and in September of 2010 John became Mint Male's yoga columnist. Also in November 2010, John founded his own pottery company, ZenMud pottery. Each piece is made by John while he is in a meditation. No piece is planned ahead and no piece is the same.
