After Katheryn Harlan recovered from breast cancer, this yoga teacher struggled to return to her previous yoga practice. Unable to find a yoga style able to accommodate her new physical limitations, Harlan, a former nurse, developed her own. With assistance from physicians and physical therapists, she modified poses and created sequences suited to breast cancer patients and survivors. She now shares her insight and teachings with women in all stages of their cancer journey through New Beginnings Yoga at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, NC. Harlan is also the founder of Through Healing Eyes, Inc., a nonprofit which funds breast cancer physical fitness/yoga projects and detection and treatment programs.
