Feeling outraged? Anxious? Worried? Overwhelmed? Overly excited?
In the lyrics of Anna Nalick: “Just breathe.”
It seems like such a simple solution, right?
It used to tick me off when I was encouraged to take 10 deep breaths to ward off anger or frustration. I didn’t believe that the simple act of calming and controlling my breath would help matters. It wasn't until I turned to yoga that I experienced the amazing power of breath. I began to realize that conscious, aware breathing promoted composure and calm. Now, when I experience frantic or undesirable thoughts, I know it’s time to slow down and tune into my breath.
Benefits of Conscious Breathing:
Unite breath with movement in these two online yoga classes.
First up, we have a new Stability and Strength Vinyasa yoga flow with Michelle Johnson. This fun filled flow will allow you to tune into your breath, to settle down in the body, and to connect to your core, allowing your center to support you throughout the practice. This 63-minute online yoga class allows you to focus on standing balance poses including Warrior III, toppling Tree, Half Moon, and Revolved Half Moon. Move into some upper back stretching and backbending. End class with some juicy hip openers before settling into a sweet, soft savasana.
Next, Surrender & Breathe with Ashley Albrand. Allow yourself to surrender to your experience and trust the flow of your breath with this hip, psoas, and shoulder opening online yoga class. In this 97-minute Vinyasa flow, explore postures such as Baddha Parshvakonasana (Bound Side Angle Pose) and Supta Virasana (Reclining Hero’s Pose) to open your energy channels and connect to your highest potential. Flow through hip opening and arm balancing poses paired with music provided by Shaman's Dream.
If you don’t have time to delve into a full-blown class, just practice a few minutes of ujjayi pranayama to realize the powerful healing and self-supporting benefits of deep, regulated breath.
Go ahead: Take some full, energizing breaths. Experience clarity and calm. Feel a sweet release.
